The Los Angeles Chargers should be prepping a trade offer for Josh Rosen in the 2020 offseason, bringing the young QB back home.

Not that it makes a huge difference right now, but the Los Angeles Chargers and Josh Rosen could be a match at some point in the (relatively) near future.

The Chargers were one of the teams rumored to be interested in Rosen over the course of the 2019 offseason, and the Cardinals ended up trading him to the Miami Dolphins for a late second-round pick.

Although the Dolphins took a reasonably expensive shot on Rosen, I don’t think there’s any question he’s not the guy Brian Flores and Chad O’Shea are going to build their offense around going forward with three first-round picks in the 2020 NFL Draft.

Rosen, perhaps more than anything, needs to get away from a roster full of dysfunction and devoid of talent and onto a roster with talent around him and in an environment he can actually find some success.

Not that Rosen should be playing as poorly as he has, even in a limited sample size, but he hasn’t exactly had the greatest opportunities so far in the NFL with a battle in training camp his rookie season against Sam Bradford and in his second season against Ryan Fitzpatrick.

Although Rosen’s regular-season tape has been less than inspiring, he could be the ideal fit for the Los Angeles Chargers, who have to be at least somewhat keeping one eye on the post-Philip Rivers era.

The Chargers signed Tyrod Taylor to be Rivers’ backup and drafted North Dakota State’s Easton Stick as a developmental project, but Rosen is a player that Chargers GM Tom Telesco could bring back to the city of Los Angeles where Rosen played his college ball and help him resurrect his career, slowly but surely.

Rosen is still just 22 years of age. He’s got a lot of football ahead of him and even if Philip Rivers keeps playing after this season, Rosen would have a chance to do what players like Teddy Bridgewater and Jimmy Garoppolo have done in good situations as players coming on in relief of star quarterbacks and earning full-time gigs in other cities.

There’s no reason to believe Rosen’s NFL career is just not going to work out at this point. He’s got talent, he’s a smart dude, and he’s got physical skills. He needs the right situation to thrive and a place like Los Angeles or even New England could do wonders for him after 2019 when the Dolphins likely use their top pick on the QB position.
