Previewing the Thursday Night Football matchup between the Minnesota Vikings and Washington Redskins.

On Thursday night, the 5-2 Washington Redskins will play host to the 1-6 Washington Redskins. On paper, this may not seem like the most appealing matchup, but there are some interesting storylines that make this one a bit more interesting.

In particular, this will be Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins‘ first game against his former team. Cousins had a lot of success with the Washington Redskins, but they were never willing to commit to him for the long-term. Eventually, Cousins landed with the Minnesota Vikings on a massive three-year, $84 million contract which was fully guaranteed.

The free-agent acquisition of Cousins has not exactly worked out how the Vikings would have liked, but he has really stepped his game up the last few weeks. Over his last three games, Cousins has completed 76 percent of his passes for 976 yards, 10 touchdowns and only one interception.

He has been absolutely on fire recently, consistently hitting star wide receivers Adam Thielen and Stefon Diggs down the field. Expect Cousins to continue to have success against a less than stellar Redskins defense. Running back Dalvin Cook could also be in for a big-game, as Washington has allowed 134.4 rushing yards per game this season, the sixth-most in the entire NFL.

The other interesting storyline in this game is the return of Adrian Peterson to Minnesota. Peterson spent the first ten years of his career with the Vikings where he established himself as one of the best running backs in NFL history. His career is certainly on the down-turn, but Peterson is leading the way in the Redskins backfield. He will undoubtedly be looking to make an impact against his former team.
