San Francisco 49ers bolster offense with addition of Emmanuel Sanders
The San Francisco 49ers add a much-needed offensive weapon in the trade for Emmanuel Sanders.
The San Francisco 49ers have been the most surprising team in the NFL this season, starting the year at 6-0. They have been firing on all cylinders on both sides of the ball and appear to be serious threats to make a Super Bowl run this season. On Tuesday, the 49ers filled their biggest need when they made a trade with the Denver Broncos for wide receiver Emmanuel Sanders.
According to Mike Klis of 9News, the San Francisco 49ers will acquire Sanders along with a fifth-round pick in exchange for third and fourth-round selections going to the Denver Broncos.
Sanders will be an unrestricted free agent this offseason, making this a relatively risky deal for the 49ers. That being said, they are in the best position that they have been in for years to make a deep playoff run. I do not blame them for putting their chips on the table and getting a guy who they think immediately makes them better.
Sanders is an extremely explosive NFL wide receiver who has always had a knack for getting open. He is still a legitimate deep threat down the field and consistently makes defenders miss in space. Sanders enters as one of the premier players on the 49ers offense and should be able to make plenty of noise with quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo getting him the ball.
The San Francisco 49ers clearly realize that now is their time to compete. They are absolutely loaded on the defensive side of the ball and Kyle Shanahan has the offense rolling as well. They lacked impact talent at the wide receiver position and did a great job of taking care of their biggest need on the roster here with this trade.
Giving up third and fourth-round picks for a rental player may end up being tough to swallow down the line, but this is the kind of trade that the 49ers simply needed to make.
