2020 NFL Draft: Two-round mock draft featuring Joe Burrow going No. 2
The Oakland Raiders can continue to fool themselves and think that Derek Carr is the guy to lead them into the future. However, until they find out a way to improve at the quarterback position, the Raiders are going to continue to be stuck in mediocrity. Right now, they are an above-average team at best and with Carr under center, they are not going to become anything better.
With this in mind, the Raiders attack their need at quarterback in this mock draft. They find a true franchise quarterback for them to build around and a player for fans to get excited about as the team moves to Las Vegas. Oklahoma quarterback Jalen Hurts lands with Jon Gruden and the Raiders.
Hurts has completely taken his game to the next level this season, absolutely dominating the competition as the starting quarterback at Oklahoma. Through seven games, Hurts has completed 74 percent of his passes for 2,074 yards, 20 touchdowns and three interceptions. On top of those impressive passing numbers, Hurts has piled up 705 yards 10 touchdowns on 84 carries on the ground.
Simply put, Hurts has been incredible this season and is a true contender for the Heisman Trophy. It is fair to wonder how much of this success is due to playing in the system of Oklahoma head coach Lincoln Riley. Hurts was always productive during his time at Alabama, but he never looked like a polished passer. His arm talent, ability to read defenses and accuracy have all seemed to improve drastically this season. Is this due to his progression as a player or Oklahoma’s system?
Riley and the Oklahoma offensive system obviously has something to do with Hurts’ improvement, but ignoring him as a legitimate first-round prospect in the 2020 NFL Draft would be a mistake. Hurts is an extremely talented player who undoubtedly has a chance to be a star at the next level.
In this 2020 NFL draft scenario, the Las Vegas Raiders shoot for the stars and land a new quarterback to lead them into a new era.
