New England Patriots: 5 trade targets prior to NFL trade deadline
A.J. Green, WR, Cincinnati Bengals
The 0-6 Cincinnati Bengals are clearly one of the worst teams in the NFL and it would be wise for them to start selling off pieces for upcoming draft capital. There are two specific players who stand out as potential targets for the New England Patriots. Veteran wide receiver A.J. Green stands out as the most obvious target.
The Bengals have expressed hesitation when trade rumors surrounding Green have come up. However, the 31-year-old Green is an unrestricted free agent after this season and is not going to be around when the Bengals are competitive again. With that in mind, Cincinnati would be crazy not to consider a fair offer in exchange for Green.
The Patriots have an obvious need at the wide receiver position and Green could come in and be an absolute game-changer in their offense. Depending on the asking price and the status of his injured ankle, Green is an obvious trade target for the New England Patriots.
Tyler Eifert, TE, Cincinnati Bengals
The Patriots have essentially gotten nothing out of the tight end position this season. They have done a nice job of replacing the missing production of the position with other players, but I imagine that the Pats would love to find a reliable tight end to add to the mix.
Tyler Eifert is the perfect kind of low-cost veteran option who would make sense for the Patriots. Injuries have held Eifert back throughout his NFL career, but he is still a reliable target in the red zone and can make plays in the middle of the field.
Most importantly, Eifert should be easy to obtain from the lowly Bengals. He is a free agent this offseason and Cincinnati drafted tight end Drew Sample in the second round of the 2019 NFL Draft. Opening up more snaps for Sample by trading Eifert makes a lot of sense here.
