2020 NFL Draft: First-round mock draft includes Joe Burrow in top 12
The San Francisco 49ers have built an extremely deep and talented roster that does not have many obvious flaws. It was difficult to find them a player who fits well, but I ended up giving them Alabama safety Xavier McKinney.
McKinney is an extremely athletic and versatile defensive back who shines in a variety of ways on the field. He is a fantastic deep coverage safety who shows great range and ball skills on the back-end. McKinney is also an impressive man-to-man defender who can take care of tight ends, running backs and even some slot receivers.
McKinney would fit well in the 49ers defense as a versatile defensive back who could make an impact at safety and even slot cornerback.
Oklahoma quarterback Jalen Hurts has been one of the most interesting 2020 NFL draft prospects to watch this season. Entering this year, Hurts was a Day 3 prospect who had obvious arm talent and accuracy issues. That being said, Hurts has been one of the best players in college football this season and deserves consideration as a first-round prospect going forward.
Hurts looks much more comfortable and under control in the pocket this season. He has become a much better decision-maker, has the arm talent to make most of the throws on the football field and has been an extremely accurate passer this season.
How much of this improvement is the development of Hurts as a player and how much of it is the brilliance of Oklahoma head coach Lincoln Riley? That is a difficult question to answer and one that NFL teams are going to be kicking around throughout the 2020 NFL Draft season as they try to determine the value of Hurts as a prospect.
However, I could see the New England Patriots falling in love with Hurts throughout the 2020 NFL draft process. He is a smart player and outstanding leader who has proved that he can take well to great coaching and learn to get better. Give him a year or two to sit back and learn under Tom Brady and Hurts would be set up for a long and successful career with the Patriots.
