San Francisco 49ers rookie defensive end Nick Bosa got some revenge on a struggling Baker Mayfield on Monday Night Football.

It’s been over two years, but do you think San Francisco 49ers rookie defensive end Nick Bosa, a former star prospect at Ohio State, has forgotten what Baker Mayfield did following an Oklahoma victory at Ohio State?

Mayfield ran with the Oklahoma flag to the center of the field, right inside the big “O”, and waved the Sooners flag around before planting it in the ground and adding a little insult to the injury that was the Buckeyes’ 31-16 loss at home.

For those who don’t remember, here’s a quick refresher.

It’s been two years, but Bosa finally got the chance to match up with Mayfield again on Monday Night Football.

The undefeated 49ers hosted the Cleveland Browns and the Browns, who have been more disappointing than not this season, and prior to the game, Mayfield refused to shake any hands on the other side.

It didn’t work out for him.

Mayfield completed just 8-of-22 pass attempts and finished with 100 passing yards, no touchdowns, and two interceptions. He was also sacked four times, fumbling twice, losing one.

The primary reason for Mayfield’s struggles?

Nick Bosa, the Ohio State star who undoubtedly watched Mayfield disrespect the Buckeyes by planting the Oklahoma flag at midfield of the Horseshoe.

Check out one of Bosa’s sack celebrations after a dominating first half by the 49ers defense:

Nick Bosa Monday Night Stat Line

  • 4 total tackles
  • 2 sacks
  • 3 tackles for loss
  • 5 QB hits
  • 1 forced fumble
  • 1 fumble recovery

Bosa’s performance on Monday night was so good, he was personally congratulated on the field at the end of the game by 49ers GM John Lynch, whose process in the Bay has been a little longer than many thought, but oh-so-rewarding now that he has a superstar on defense like this.

Bosa’s impact this season has been undeniable, and the 49ers are a completely different team now with everyone healthy and a fresh arsenal of weapons to work with.

As Bosa continues to gain confidence, teams will no longer be able to put him in one-on-one matchups off the edge which will then open things up for Dee Ford on the other side of the field, a guy who had a whopping seven forced fumbles last season as one of the elite pass rushers in the NFL.

The 49ers are now 4-0 and look like one of the most complete teams in the NFL. Kyle Shanahan has his offense looking well balanced despite a relatively slow start to the season for Jimmy Garoppolo and the passing game.
