Arizona Cardinals 2020 NFL Draft: Complete 7-round mock draft
On Saturday, Alabama wide receiver Devonta Smith exploded onto the 2020 NFL draft scene with his incredible performance against Ole Miss. It is easy for Smith to get overlooked in the Alabama offense, playing alongside two likely 2020 first-round picks at the wide receiver position. While Jerry Jeudy and Henry Ruggs III get most of the attention, it is hard to ignore Smith after his 11-reception performance on Saturday where he totaled 274 yards and five touchdowns.
Smith was absolutely dominant on Saturday, consistently separating against defensive backs and dominating with the ball in his hands. He is an extremely quick and elusive receiver who runs crisp routes and knows how to get open. He also catches the ball well and does a great job of transitioning from catch to run. Once the ball is in his hands, Smith uses his quickness to make defenders miss in space, he also shows good contact balance for a wide receiver.
The Arizona Cardinals run more four-receiver sets than any team in the NFL. They aggressively attacked the wide receiver position in the 2019 NFL Draft, but with their wide-open offensive attack, they need legitimate depth at the position.
Smith is an extremely talented player who has the versatility to play both inside and outside. The Cardinals have some nice talent at wide receiver, but they need more and Smith is a great value in this range.
