New England Patriots

There are actually people out there that think Antonio Brown did all of this on purpose to clear a path for him to join the New England Patriots. Seemingly everyone on Twitter likes to imagine Bill Belichick sitting back, looking devious, figuring out a way to get another star player for next to nothing.

Would Antonio Brown help the Patriots on the football field? Sure. Does New England have the type of culture that could keep Brown’s ego in check? I suppose they do if anyone can. They’re another one of those teams that always seems to target talented players with some issues surrounding them and turn them into valued contributors to their football team.

Josh Gordon is returning from an indefinite suspension from a long history of substance policy violations. Time will tell if “the Patriot way” was able to steer him straight. New England took a chance on the big personality of Randy Moss in the late-2000’s and he became a top receiver in the league once again after a rough patch in Oakland himself.

There seems to be a sort of humbling factor of joining the New England Patriots. Joining an organization with such great tradition and recent success seems to be a big factor in getting players’ heads on straight.

The Patriots are the favorite to land Brown at 2-1 odds according to Sports Line. The Patriots could absolutely take a chance on the talent of Brown. AB and Gordon on the outside and Julian Edelman in the slot? Tom Brady would be licking his chops. The Patriots haven’t had that much talent at receiver since the Moss days, so the idea should be very appealing to Belichick and owner Robert Kraft.

They also expressed interest in acquiring Antonio Brown in March before he was dealt to the Raiders, so if AB ends up in New England I don’t think anyone will be surprised. He and his agent discussed the importance of joining a team with a good quarterback and a winning culture. New England certainly fits the bill. I don’t think that’s where he ends up. Just a little too obvious for me. But if he does sign with the Patriots, they could be well on their way to back-to-back Super Bowls.
