Miami Dolphins 2020 NFL Draft: Complete seven-round mock draft
R1P2: Andrew Thomas, OT, Georgia
In this mock draft, the Dolphins go on the clock with the second overall pick. Most early mock drafts will be placing a quarterback here for Miami. With an obvious need at quarterback and Tua Tagovailoa and Justin Herbert leading the 2020 NFL draft class, I could certainly see them going in that direction. That being said, if I were running the Dolphins, I would be looking at more of a long-term approach.
Tagovailoa and Herbert are great, but the Dolphins should be setting their sights on Clemson quarterback Trevor Lawrence. Lawrence is a true generational quarterback prospect who is going to be an absolute superstar in the NFL. Building their team up in the 2020 NFL Draft and doing whatever you can to get in position to get Lawrence in 2021 is the best path to success for the Miami Dolphins.

With that in mind, we skip on a quarterback here and try to find the replacement for Tunsil. With the second overall pick, the Dolphins select Georgia offensive tackle Andrew Thomas.
Thomas is an elite-level left tackle prospect who has massive upside at the next level. He has ideal size and length for the position, moves his feet extremely well and is incredibly powerful at the point of attack.
Thomas is a dominant run defender who consistently over-powers the man lined up across from him. He gets off of the ball quickly and uses a strong, accurate punch and impressive overall hand usage and pad level to consistently drive defenders back.
His combination of quick feet and length also make him a fantastic pass protector who mirrors opposing edge defenders well. On top of that, when Thomas gets anchored in against a pass rusher, it is game over. He simply does not lose against power.
When it comes down to it, Thomas is an elite-level left tackle prospect who would be an ideal player to build an offensive line around. The Dolphins’ offensive line is terrible and they need to take steps towards fixing it before getting a true franchise quarterback in the mix. Adding Thomas in the 2020 NFL Draft would certainly be a step in the right direction.
