The Buffalo Bills decided not to keep LeSean McCoy despite what they had been saying all offseason. What’s next for the veteran running back?

One of the more surprising NFL roster cuts so far is the Buffalo Bills deciding to move on from LeSean McCoy.

Based on McCoy’s performance last season, the move is not all that shocking, but based on what Buffalo has said all offseason, it didn’t sound like McCoy was going to be relocating.

As of last season, McCoy was averaging under four yards per carry and just 752 yards from scrimmage, the lowest of his NFL career.

I am not sure he’s ‘done’ but McCoy is going to need to prove he can still play and he’d be wise to get himself in a favorable situation.

There are a number of teams that could make sense for him, so let’s take a look at a few.

Kansas City Chiefs

The obvious connection here is Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid, who was once upon a time McCoy’s head coach with the Philadelphia Eagles.

The Chiefs cut Kareem Hunt last year and replaced him in-house with Damien Williams, who has done well and fits their offense great.

But wouldn’t the Chiefs at least be a little curious what McCoy could offer with all of the other talent they have offensively? It would be fun to see.

Houston Texans

Although the Texans appear to be a dysfunctional franchise at the moment, they still have an opportunity to compete for a division title in 2019 and DeShaun Watson needs as much help as he can possibly get.

While McCoy wouldn’t be the ideal ‘complement’ to Duke Johnson Jr. in the backfield, he has been more of a featured back in his career than Johnson and could help the Texans in that regard.

Philadelphia Eagles

The Eagles don’t necessarily need McCoy, but they seem to be in the mood for some reunions right now with DeSean Jackson coming back this offseason.

Would they entertain bringing McCoy back into the fold as well?

Indianapolis Colts

The Colts have a ton of cap space and they need some depth at the running back spot. McCoy wouldn’t have to come in and be their number one back or anything, but he would be a nice outlet especially in the passing game for Jacoby Brissett as the Colts now plan for life after Andrew Luck.

Next. Big-name players possibly on the move?. dark

There will be no shortage of options for McCoy as he hits free agency. He’d be wise to try and land on a team where he’s not going to spin his wheels getting a bunch of touches on a team that’s going nowhere, but sign on to be a role player on a team that already has pieces in place to be successful.
