Trent Williams, OT, Washington Redskins

The Washington Redskins seem adamant that they are not trading star left tackle Trent Williams, but Williams seems adamant about never playing for them again.

The Redskins would probably be wise to get great value for Williams, but their leverage is shot if they just openly try to get rid of him. So, they’ve gone to the media and told everyone they aren’t trading him, have no intention of trading him, etc.

I am not sure I buy it yet. We’ll see if Williams is in Washington for week one, but there are a lot of NFL teams that need a good left tackle, and there aren’t that many to go around.

One team, in particular, that is desperate for help at tackle is the Houston Texans. The Texans used their top pick in the 2019 NFL Draft on Tytus Howard, and he appears poised to start for them as a left guard.

They could have traded up two spots and got Andre Dillard. Whoops.

I am not sure if Houston is bold enough to make this move right now but they should be. DeShaun Watson’s wellness could depend on it.

There was an apparently fake rumor that the New England Patriots offered a first-round pick for Williams, and while it was proven false, it does sound like something New England would do.

There could be any number of teams in on this kind of move if the Redskins are willing to listen. A first-round pick wouldn’t be enough to get it done? Yeah right.
