The NFL trade rumor mill is going to be swirling leading up to Saturday’s deadline for teams to get down to 53 players. What big names will be on the move?

The NFL’s trade deadline is usually a little bit of hot stove, a lot of disappointment. The deadline to get down to 53 players, however, is pure madness. The NFL trade rumor mill is heating up right now, and rightfully so.

There could be some very prominent names on the move.

While it’s more likely than not that the majority of these players will stay put, these are also names of players that wouldn’t be a surprise if they were included in trade discussions.

Some of these moves could have championship implications while others could simply be moves made for depth. Let’s take a look through some of the names that could be on the move, starting with the most obvious…

Jadeveon Clowney, DE, Houston Texans

Based on his freakish athletic makeup, it’s shocking that Clowney does not yet have a double-digit sack season to his name.

At the age of 26, a few of those are sure to come.

Clowney was franchise tagged this offseason by the Houston Texans, and now is the perfect time to trade for him because he hasn’t signed his tender, doesn’t see a long-term contract in the cards with Houston, and is ready to move on.

Of all the players we’ll talk about, he may have the best chance of being traded, and there are a few notable interested parties.

  • Miami Dolphins — Clowney reportedly has met with head coach Brian Flores
  • Philadelphia Eagles
  • Seattle Seahawks

The most interesting destination for Clowney would, of course, be the Eagles. The most talented roster in perhaps the entire NFL getting one of the league’s best edge defenders? Yikes.

The Eagles already have a stellar defensive line. Putting Clowney at the right defensive end spot would be borderline criminally unfair.

Ultimately, the most likely destination appears to be Miami, which has a hoard of 2020 draft picks.
