Redskins vs. Falcons

Can Dwayne Haskins take the starting job?

NFL teams seem to love spinning their wheels when it comes to the quarterback position.

Not to diminish the play or ability of any other guy in the league, but look at what kind of time has been wasted over the past few years letting guys sit on the bench for worse alternatives.

In 2017, the Chicago Bears toyed with the idea of Mike Glennon as their starter as opposed to putting Mitch Trubisky in the lineup right away.

In 2018, the Cleveland Browns had Tyrod Taylor taking reps from Baker Mayfield, who looks like an absolute star.

In 2019, the Redskins have fabricated a starting battle between Dwayne Haskins and Case Keenum.

We know what Keenum is and can be. There’s no doubt Haskins has a higher ceiling and with jobs on the line in Washington, this game should be evaluated as a piece of the process in which the Redskins can comfortably start Haskins week one of the 2019 season.

There may be some benefit to sitting Haskins at the start of the season, but it might be wise of the Redskins to usher in the future sooner than later.
