The title of ‘preseason MVP’ will be determined in the matchup of Ryan Finley and Daniel Jones. What else should you watch for in NFL preseason week 3?

It all comes down to this…

In one corner, wearing red white and blue, a 6-foot-5 sixth overall pick out of Duke, is New York Giants quarterback Daniel Jones.

In the other corner, wearing orange and black, a 6-foot-4 fourth-round pick out of North Carolina State, is Ryan Finley.

This is the heavyweight bout NFL preseason enthusiasts dream of.

In all seriousness, while much of the NFL’s preseason action is either dull (to most) or inconsequential (to most), the matchup between the New York Giants and Cincinnati Bengals with young quarterbacks Daniel Jones and Ryan Finley likely receiving their most extensive action of the year is interesting enough to tune in, at least while those guys are on the field.

Jones has been lights out for the Giants in two preseason games despite getting hit and rattled a couple of times in his second game. He’s putting the ball in tight windows, looks comfortable running and operating the Giants’ offense, and is generally out-playing what pretty much anyone thought he was capable of doing.

Finley has been doing much of the same.

The Bengals rookie has been extremely sharp through two preseason games and is showing poise well-beyond his fourth-round draft status.

Both of these guys played their college ball in the ACC, and both have similar physical and athletic profiles. There were some who felt the differences between these two prospects coming out of college were relatively minimal. So far, both guys look like they could be starting options for teams with quarterbacks possibly on the way out in their respective cities.

As far as preseason storylines and intrigue go, this game should be pretty fun.

What about the rest of the Thursday slate of games? Let’s take a look around the league at what you should be watching for on Thursday night.
