2. Jeff Thomas, WR, Miami

The 2020 NFL Draft is going to be absolutely loaded at the wide receiver position. It will be difficult for any receiver to rise the ranks and knock off the elite players at the top of the position, but Miami’s Jeff Thomas is a guy who I will be keeping a close eye on this season.

More from NFL Draft

Thomas’ numbers certainly do not stand out (52 career receptions for 937 yards and five touchdowns in 24 games), but he is an electric athlete who has massive upside if he is used properly.

His production has been held back by poor quarterback play and overall offensive struggles by the Hurricanes, but Thomas has an extremely exciting skill-set that will undoubtedly be enticing to NFL teams. With speed for days and ridiculous quickness in short spaces, Thomas is a difficult cover for any defensive back. He has an elite ability to start and stop on a dime and reaches his top speed quickly. Overall, he is an elite athlete with massive natural upside at the wide receiver position.

Thomas is a bit raw as a route runner, but he has shown some promise in that area. There is a bit of craftiness in his game, using his quickness and acceleration well to trick defenders and keep them guessing at all time. He also displays soft hands and gets upfield quickly after the catch.

Simply put, Thomas has the skills to get open, catches the ball well and is a fantastic playmaker with the ball in his hands. He is certainly a bit on the small side (5-foot-10, 180 pounds), but he is an exciting player who will fit the modern NFL extremely well.

Thomas will have his hands full against a strong Florida secondary on Saturday night. I am interested to see what he can do against potential NFL talent.
