Pittsburgh Steelers: Devin Bush flies all over the field in debut
The Pittsburgh Steelers are expecting a big impact from Devin Bush in 2019, and his preseason debut should encourage them.
The Pittsburgh Steelers gave up first, second, and third round draft choices to move up in the 2019 NFL Draft with the Denver Broncos 10 spots and take Michigan linebacker Devin Bush.
With that kind of hefty investment, the team is understandably expecting big things out of the former Michigan Wolverines star, and he delivered the goods in his first preseason action of the 2019 season.
Bush finished with 10 tackles (7 solo), a nice tackle at the line of scrimmage on third down, and some solid work in coverage limiting yards after the catch.
Most notably, Bush was just absolutely flying all around the field making plays, getting involved in every frame and finding the football.
It’s so much fun to have football back and it’s great to see a guy like Bush taking every rep seriously. Not that he wouldn’t, but it’s clear he’s not diminishing the importance of these preseason reps.
Bush was getting in some really nice work in the trenches, especially here, showing one of the best traits we loved about him on tape, which was his ability to take on blocks despite his small stature.
Bush doesn’t play like he’s only 5-foot-11. He attacks blocks and finds ways to shed those blocks despite his size, and he does that a time or two in here.
As a matter of fact, there were a couple of plays that looked like they would go for big yardage but Bush managed to slip off his block and trip the ball carrier up or make a nice play in general.
This guy is an instinctive disruptor on the football field, and he flies around like a missile with a mission.
The Steelers’ defense has taken some hits in recent years and the loss of Ryan Shazier may have been the one that affected them the most. Shazier’s absence paved the way for the move to get Bush, and he looks like he’s going to follow up his brilliant performance this past year at Michigan by contending for Defensive rookie of the year honors.
