The Atlanta Falcons lost the Hall of Fame Game, but they got a great performance from their prized fourth-round prospect John Cominsky.

Although the result of the game doesn’t matter and the play is typically pretty sloppy, the Hall of Fame Game can be a valuable evaluating tool for the teams involved, and the Atlanta Falcons had to come away from their loss to the Denver Broncos quite pleased with what they saw from fourth-round pick John Cominsky.

Cominsky is a native of Barberton, OH, about 20 minutes away from Canton where the Hall of Fame Game is played. He came out in front of many hometown family and friends and had himself a game.

Cominsky finished against the Broncos with a tackle for loss, a sack, and a recovered fumble on a muffed punt.

His first sack in the preseason came as a result of what many believed to be Cominsky’s greatest trait in the pre-draft process — aggressiveness.

At 6-foot-5, 285 pounds, Cominsky ran a blazing 4.69 second 40-yard dash. That kind of athletic ability really put the spotlight on a player who was a 215-pound quarterback when he entered the college ranks.

Over the past two seasons at Charleston, he racked up 39.5 tackles for loss and showed off his athleticism and power with 9.5 total sacks in that timeframe.

The Falcons showcased him in this game and his performance should help him creep his way on up the depth chart.

Right now, the Falcons’ depth on the defensive line is solid. They brought back Adrian Clayborn this offseason and made an underrated pickup by bringing in former Chiefs defensive end Allen Bailey, and we know Dan Quinn is going to ask these guys to play inside out.

They re-signed Grady Jarrett to a monster deal, so snaps might be few and far between for Cominsky as a rookie, but he has proven in short order he can help against the run, as a pass rusher, as well as on special teams.

After such a strong performance in the first preseason game, Cominsky will have a spotlight on him throughout the rest of the Falcons’ preseason action.
