Kevin Mawae, Center, Seattle Seahawks / New York Jets / Tennessee Titans

Kevin Mawae was as solid of a center as they come. In 16 years with 3 different teams, Mawae anchored the offensive line and was a vocal leader everywhere he went.

Another LSU Tiger, Mawae was drafted in the second round of the 1994 NFL Draft by the Seattle Seahawks and was named to the 1994 All-Rookie Team. After playing tackle in college and guard his first two seasons, Mawae found his home at the center of the offensive line in 1996.

After signing with the Jets in 1998, Mawae helped lead New York to a division title and championship game appearance in his first season. As a Jet, Mawae led a unit that paved the way for Curtis Martin to run for 44 100-yard games and seven 1,000-yard seasons.

Mawae continued to perform at a high level into his late 30’s with the Tennessee Titans. In Tennessee, he continued to lead the way for 1,000-yard rushers as three different backs accomplished the feat in his four seasons with the team. In his final two seasons in the league Mawae made the Pro Bowl, and was an All-Pro his penultimate season in 2008.

In total, Mawae blocked for a 1,000-yard rusher in 13 of his 16 seasons, including five different runners. His final season he blocked for a 2,000-yard rusher in Chris Johnson. He was named an All-Pro six times, a Pro Bowler eight times, and was selected to the NFL’s All-Decade Team of the 2000’s.

Kevin’s wife, Tracy Mawae, will be the one to present him on Saturday night.
