John Franklin III, CB, Chicago Bears

John Franklin III was another major star on season one of Last Chance U, as he transferred to EMCC from Florida State. A former five-star quarterback recruit, Franklin should have dominated the JUCO ranks, but he struggled with accuracy and the cameras consistently showed him having a bad attitude.

Franklin saw playing time at EMCC but spent a majority of his time on the bench. Simply put, he was an elite weapon with the ball in his hands but was never able to get his arm under control. After EMCC, Franklin went to Auburn for a season before transferring again, this time ending up at Florida Atlantic and moving to wide receiver.

Franklin signed an undrafted free agent contract with the Chicago Bears last offseason and spent the 2018 season on their practice squad. The Bears brought Franklin in as a cornerback and they are working to make the most out of his obvious athleticism and upside.

Through the early camp practices, Franklin has been turning some heads. While his chances of actually making the 53-man roster out of camp are slim, it appears that Franklin is taking well to his most recent position change. The Bears obviously see something in him and seem to be committed to his development.
