The Cleveland Browns have had a monstrous offseason, and the addition of CB Greedy Williams has been considered icing on the cake.

The Cleveland Browns have had one of the best offseasons for a single team I can remember since I began officially covering the NFL for this website back in 2011.

Along with the development of their young superstars already in house in Baker Mayfield and Myles Garrett, the Browns had added wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. to the mix along with his childhood friend and former LSU teammate Jarvis Landry, and they also added guys like Sheldon Richardson, Kareem Hunt, Morgan Burnett, and Olivier Vernon.

Browns fans were probably sitting back enjoying the festivities of the first-round of the 2019 NFL Draft as their team didn’t have a pick due to the Beckham trade, and really anything the Browns did after their free agency period was icing on the cake anyway.

So when the team was able to reel in LSU cornerback Greedy Williams in the second round, you can imagine how excited fans were at the idea of pairing the former Tigers ballhawk with Denzel Ward.

Williams had an interception on his first day of training camp against Garrett Gilbert, and followed that up with an interception off of Baker Mayfield — against Beckham Jr. — in the end zone on day two of Browns camp.

This is not an indictment of Mayfield by any means, but it is a really nice play by Williams, and the second really nice play he’s made in as many days of training camp.

The Browns’ secondary, as good as Ward is, really needed some upgrades this offseason. People forget because of how exciting many of the young pieces on this roster are that this was a team that literally won zero games two seasons ago. They are in many respects far removed from that ugly season, but the Browns still had a lot of rebuilding to do when John Dorsey walked into the building.

The secondary overall is probably still not the strongest area of the team, but Williams’ emergence could give the Browns two lock-down ballhawks at the cornerback positions.
