This year’s Madden video game released rookie ratings, and they simply took the trolling of New York Giants QB Daniel Jones too far.

The Madden 20 rookie ratings are out, and our own Chris Dougherty has a fun, in-depth look at some of the top rookies in this year’s class which you can read right here.

While Madden ratings are always highly debatable, the people who put them together usually have a pretty fair system in place and everything is updated throughout the season, so the initial rankings don’t always really matter anyway.

With that said, the Madden ratings absolutely failed rookie quarterback Daniel Jones.

Jones, who was the second QB drafted in 2019 after Kyler Murray and the sixth overall pick, has been considered a major reach by most everyone who evaluates the draft and prospects coming out every year.

But even with that and all of the trolling that has gone on this offseason, the people who put together the ratings for Madden took this one too far.

Jones has a rating of 63, which is three overall below third-round pick Will Grier, four overall below Drew Lock (which is an understandable one, in all honesty), and one overall below undrafted free agent Tyree Jackson.

No offense to Jackson, who has a chance to stick in the league, but putting him above the sixth overall pick in this year’s draft is an indictment on the rating process. How could that possibly slip through the cracks?

This is an embarrassment to Madden’s ratings team, which has done so much in recent years to separate ‘elite’ players in the NFL from non-elite. This 63 overall for Daniel Jones is one of the worst things I’ve seen from the Madden franchise since I finally got fed up and stopped playing eight years ago.

Jones was certainly a bit of a reach in this year’s draft. He didn’t have the best college resumé. But Jones’ physical tools are strong. He is a very good runner when he needs to be. He showed off some great ball placement this past season.

This rating seems to indicate that Madden believes Jones is a hack who barely has a shot in the league. Hopefully Jones can prove them wrong and make them look bad for this really poor decision.
