2017 NFL Draft Redo: Re-Drafting the entire first round
5. Tennessee Titans: Marshon Lattimore, CB, Ohio State
Original Pick: Corey Davis
This was a tough one for me. Corey Davis has been solid for the Tennessee Titans and undoubtedly has some nice upside going forward. Taking him at five seemed like a bit of a reach at the time and that has proved to be true two years later. Replacing Davis is obvious, but deciding who to replace him with was much more difficult.
The defensive backs in this NFL draft class really stand out and that is the route that I decided to go with for Tennessee here. There are certainly some interesting safeties to consider, but cornerback Marshon Lattimore feels like the right pick.
Lattimore ended up going 11th to the New Orleans Saints and was an absolute star from the word go. As a rookie, Lattimore had five interceptions, was selected to the Pro Bowl and was named Defensive Rookie of the Year. He continued his strong play in his second season and has become one of the premier players at the cornerback position in the entire NFL.
The Titans ended up taking cornerback Adoree’ Jackson later in the first round of the 2017 NFL Draft, but snagging Lattimore at number five would have been a much better move. This team has spent a lot of resources on the defensive backfield in recent year. Getting a guy like Lattimore in the mix would have allowed them to spread their money out to other positions.
