The Washington Redskins could start rookie quarterback Dwayne Haskins right away.

Many thought that the Washington Redskins walked away with an absolute steal when they landed Ohio State quarterback Dwayne Haskins with the 15th overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft. Haskins fell a bit in the draft because he only started for one season in college and has an obvious lack of mobility. However, make no mistake about it, this guy can sling it.

In his only season as a major contributor at Ohio State, Haskins put up eye-popping numbers last year. He completed 70% of his passes for 4,831 yards, 50 touchdowns and only eight interceptions. Simply put, Haskins was an absolute star last season and has the necessary skill set to have immediate success at the next level.

Well before the draft, the Washington Redskins brought in veteran quarterback Case Keenum to be a potential stop-gap option. Keenum is far from an established franchise signal-caller, but he is a viable starting quarterback who could hold the Redskins over until Haskins is ready. They also have Colt McCoy on the roster, who has played well in the past when given the opportunity.

However, in an ideal world, Haskins would be ready to take over the starting quarterback duties for the Redskins right away. Well, according to head coach Jay Gruden, that may be the direction that we are heading. When asked whether Haskins was a serious contender for the starting job, Gruden had an interesting reply.

"“Oh, for sure,” Gruden said, according to ESPN’s John Keim. “I’d be silly not to. He’s put enough out there on tape to say he deserves a shot, without a doubt. I don’t know quite what he can do in the NFL in this system because it’s new to him, but his ability warrants the fact that, hey, let’s take a peek at this big son of a b—-.”"

Haskins has obvious upside at the next level and undoubtedly has the necessary skill set to make an impact right away. If he showing the ability to learn Gruden’s system quickly, there is no reason to hold this guy back.
