Atlanta Falcons: Is Julio Jones becoming an all-time great wide receiver?
How does Atlanta Falcons star receiver Julio Jones stack up against other elite wide receivers in league history?
Where would you put Atlanta Falcons wide receiver Julio Jones with the rest of the class of receivers in league history? Does he qualify for the Hall of Fame? Well, I’d put him in the top ten all time and say he’s a first ballot Hall of Famer.
Jones has already hit over 10,000 yards in his first eight seasons, a total of 104 games, which is faster than any other player in NFL history, according to ESPN.com. The only other receivers to come close were Calvin Johnson in 115 games and both Torry Holt and Antonio Brown in 116 games.
It’s not only how fast he’s gotten that many yards but It’s also how he creates space between him and the corners covering him. He makes every catch look easy and even when he is double covered, Jones still finds a way to go up and make the catch. Julio is always open even when he appears too not be.
Julio Jones from 2014-2018 has finished with 1,000 yards or more for five consecutive years, with 1,409 yards being the lowest over that span. His highest total was 1,871 yards in 2015.
Now, if you took his average over those same five years it would be a staggering 1,598.8 yards per season! If you wanted to average out his whole career of eight seasons you would get 1,341.4 yards per season. Those numbers for a wide receiver who’s been in the league only eight seasons are incredible.
When looking at the all-time leaders for receiving yards per game over an entire career, the Atlanta Falcons star ranks at the top of the charts and it isn’t even close! His average is 96.7 yard per game, the only other receiver with an average above a 90 is Odell Beckham. Jerry Rice only averaged 75.6 yards per game.
Jones has been unstoppable in this league. He has 47 career 100-yard receiving games, that’s more than anyone within their first eight seasons in the league according to the official website of the Atlanta Falcons. He’s made the Pro Bowl six times in his career, including each of the last five seasons. I believe he is capable of finishing his career with more Pro Bowl nominations than any player in history.
Julio Jones stats are better than most receivers that played the game and he still has many years left to play. He will continue to break more records throughout his career and would be a sure-fire Hall of Fame selection even if he were to retire tomorrow.
