3. Drafting Josh Jacobs

One of their three first-round picks, the Oakland Raiders took Alabama running back Josh Jacobs off the board for one reason and one reason only — to be their bell-cow running back.

Marshawn Lynch looked like he still had a little something left in the tank but the Raiders opted to go with the newer model in Jacobs, a player who is capable of being a punishing runner and grinding out tough yardage over the course of a game.

As a fantasy football side note, NFL Mocks Podcast host Brooks Austin and I both think Jacobs is going to have a big first year with Oakland statistically, if for not other reason than he is going to get a ton of touches.

I could see Jacobs having a similar rookie season to that of Leonard Fournette with the Jaguars in 2017.

Jacobs is not the biggest home-run threat in the rookie class but he’s a grinder (intentional Gruden pun intended) and he can catch passes out of the backfield.

Because Jacobs is going to be such an integral part of this offense, I put him all the way up at number three against the field of Raiders offseason acquisitions.
