2019 NFL Draft: Fixing one pick for each NFC North team
Chicago Bears 2019 NFL Draft Picks:
Round 3 (73rd overall): David Montgomery, RB, Iowa State
Round 4 (126): Riley Ridley, WR, Georgia
Round 6 (205): Duke Shelley, CB, Kansas State
Round 7 (222): Kerrith Whyte, RB, Florida Atlantic
Round 7 (238): Stephen Denmark, CB, Valdosta State
Bears select Alize Mack, TE, Notre Dame instead of Duke Shelley
The Chicago Bears were not exactly loaded with picks in the 2019 NFL Draft. Most due to the Khalil Mack trade, the Bears only made five selections throughout the draft, with the first one not coming until the third round.
This is a talented roster that is ready to compete for a Super Bowl right now. Even with that being the case, the Bears still did a nice job of adding impact talent in the 2019 NFL Draft.

The selection of Iowa State running back David Montgomery was far and away the best and most impactful selection made by the Bears. Montgomery is an excellent running back whose ability to make an impact on the ground and as a pass catcher makes him a perfect fit for Matt Nagy’s offense. Montgomery should make an immediate impact for the Bears and is a true Rookie of the year contender.
For this practice, we are going to replace the Bears’ sixth-round selection of Duke Shelley, a cornerback out of Kansas State. Shelley is a hard-nosed slot corner who also has some ability in the return game. However, his lack of size makes him only an option to defend the slot at the next level. I would rather see teams shoot for some upside with these later picks.
Instead of Shelley, the Bears should have made Notre Dame tight end Alize Mack the selection. Mack is a fast and athletic tight end prospect who has the potential to be a starter at the next level.
The Bears lack depth at the tight end position and could really use a raw, but talented prospect to groom under Trey Burton. Mack has impressive physical gifts and could realistically grow into a matchup nightmare at the next level. It is difficult to complain too much about a sixth-round pick, but Mack to the Bears would have made a lot of sense.
