The Miami Dolphins could be finalizing a trade for former first-round quarterback Josh Rosen, according to Pro Football Talk.

According to Pro Football Talk, the Miami Dolphins and Arizona Cardinals could be coming together on a trade for former first-round pick Josh Rosen, who said goodbye to Arizona on social media overnight.

This deal could have been done a couple of months ago, or at least a month ago, but Rosen is going to arguably the best situation he could possibly ask for and the Miami Dolphins are getting a steal.

The cost for the Cardinals to take Kyler Murray first overall could pay huge dividends for them on the field, but it is incredibly costly for them in terms of draft and financial assets.

Trading Rosen would cost the Cardinals roughly $14.4 million in dead money. His prorated signing bonus he got last year was fully guaranteed by the Cardinals and that money does not move with him to Miami.

The Dolphins, in this case, would pay Rosen his base salaries for the next three seasons at the average price of a borderline 53-man roster player (under $700,000 on average).

The Dolphins will also get the fifth-year option on Rosen’s contract, a fully guaranteed figure four years from now and they will have two years to evaluate whether or not they want to do that.

The Dolphins not only acquire a possible franchise quarterback here, they get 2018 first-round pick for the price of a 2019 second-round pick.

That’s insane.

Imagine if an NFL team approached another this year and said, “We’ll give you our 2020 second-round pick for pick 10 overall.”

Laughable.

The Denver Broncos, as a matter of fact, just got a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd round pick to move from 10 to 20.

It’s hard to fathom why more teams haven’t been in on this kind of deal. Perhaps other teams in need of a young quarterback just don’t like Rosen and don’t want him regardless of the price to acquire him.

The Dolphins will be getting a guy with a huge chip on his shoulder and they could also be getting a one year head start on implementing their young QB of the future into their program.

For the Cardinals, this is a tough pill to swallow. They got their guy in Kyler Murray, but Rosen was a first-rounder in 2018 and cost them a third and fifth to move up for. If you look at this as they invested $14.4 million, two first-round picks, a third-round pick, and a fifth-round pick to move up for Murray, it’s not so different from other trades that have been made with teams moving up for QBs.
