Quarterback

Birmingham Iron. . Luis Perez. . team. 54.

The Philadelphia Eagles signed one of the more interesting players in the AAF, and the timing is great for Perez who will be able to compete with Nate Sudfeld behind Carson Wentz in Philly.

Perez learned the quarterback position from YouTube, played a Division II Texas A&M Commerce where he won the Harlon Hill Trophy (Division II Heisman).

He played a brief bit with the Los Angeles Rams before landing on the Iron.

. Garrett Gilbert. . team. 53. . Orlando Apollos

Another player who was once with the Rams organization, Gilbert put some nice things on tape this last year not only as the best QB in the AAF but did some nice things with the Carolina Panthers.

Gilbert threw his first regular NFL pass at the age of 27, and will now have the chance to compete to be Baker Mayfield’s backup with the Browns.

Interesting note: Gilbert and Mayfield know each other from their days as prep stars in Texas high school football. Both guys — though four years apart — were the starting quarterbacks at Lake Travis High School.

35. . QB, San Antonio Commanders. . Logan Woodside. . team

This is actually Woodside’s second stint with the Titans after throwing seven touchdowns and seven interceptions with the Commanders.

Woodside was an intriguing late-round player in the 2018 NFL Draft and he gets another chance to compete in camp with both Marcus Mariota and newly acquired Ryan Tannehill.

. Brandon Silvers. . team. 30. . Memphis Express

Though the final weeks of the Memphis Express the focus of the team was heavily on John Manziel, Brandon Silvers stole the show orchestrating an impressive comeback victory for his team.

Silvers looked like a solid prospect coming out of Troy with four years of starting experience and a strong arm. He will now get the chance to develop under Adam Gase with a couple of young quarterbacks to grow alongside.

John Wolford. . team. 51. . Arizona Hotshots.

The Los Angeles Rams signed John Wolford, a former Wake Forest star, simply because he very closely resembles Sean McVay.

All kidding aside, look that up. It’s a little crazy.

Wolford, as crazy as this may sound, is not the only quarterback in the AAF with connections to the Rams. Garrett Gilbert was drafted by the Rams once upon a time, and Luis Perez was with the Rams last offseason.

Now, Wolford will get a chance to compete behind Jared Goff and Blake Bortles, two top three NFL draft picks.
