WORST:

Denver Broncos sign Ja’Wuan James

Improving the offensive line is never a bad thing for any NFL team. That said, one must be careful with those they decide to pay. Ja’Wuan James is a former 1st round pick and has played well in the past, but not recently. He’s struggled quite a bit over the past two years in Miami, allowed seven sacks in 2018 and missing several games with injury in 2017. Yet the Broncos still had no issues giving him $32 million in guaranteed money.

San Francisco 49ers sign Kwon Alexander

It’s hard not to feel like this was a reactionary move to the Reuben Foster disaster that befell the 49ers last year. They wanted to make sure that they got linebacker help whatever the cost and decided to throw $54 million at a player in Alexander who’s coming off a torn ACL. Nothing about that feels like smart business. Alexander has only played one full season in his career. There’s no doubting he has talent, but he hasn’t exactly been reliable.

Washington Redskins sign Landon Collins

Landon Collins is a three-time Pro Bowler. That means he’s a good football player. That being said, he’s got some red flags. Collins has been dealing with some health setbacks of late and has also gotten progressively worse in coverage. So for the Redskins to calmly hand him $84 million in new money is more than a little difficult to fathom, especially given the fact that he apparently wanted to play for Washington. It was a dream of his. One would think they could’ve gotten him cheaper.
