Buffalo Bills swing for the fences and trade for Antonio Brown
By Erik Lambert
The Antonio Brown sweepstakes are over. In a major shock, the Buffalo Bills came out of left field to secure the star wide receiver in a trade.
One can imagine this is not the move Brown was hoping for. He no doubt wished to join a team that would not only pay him money but also have a chance to win the Super Bowl. The Bills, fresh off a rough season in 2018 don’t look anything like that. They’ll certainly pay him his money and with the rest of the offense completely bereft of talent, he’ll be satisfied since the team is likely to throw his way constantly.
Whether he can get along with quarterback Josh Allen will be the huge question. Allen has reported accuracy issues that go back to his days at Wyoming. One can just imagine how frustrated Brown may get when the young QB starts missing him on a lot of plays. Everybody has already seen what happens when the receiver gets frustrated. He lets everybody know about it.
Still, the Bills needed an instant upgrade at wide receiver and they got one of the best in football. He caught 15 touchdowns last season and has gone over 1,200 yards at least for the past six years. Nobody else on their roster even comes close to that. He gives their passing game much-needed credibility. Whether they can take full advantage of it is a big question. They should have good defense and hopefully LeSean McCoy has some juice left to run the ball.
Who knows. If they can put together a strong draft and grab a couple of good free agents, they may be right back in the playoff mix. That’s a lot to hope for though.
