The Jacksonville Jaguars are in the market for a quarterback this year. That’s not news. The Blake Bortles experiment is over and it failed.

Now the team has to decide what they’ll do next. This is a roster talented enough to get to a Super Bowl. They have a loaded defense from front to back and a powerhouse running back in Leonard Fournette. One thing that has held them back is the quarterback position. Going the draft route as this point would be a problem. This team is ready to win now and a drafted QB takes three years or more to develop. That won’t do.

They are expected to try the free agent market instead, and there’s only one name that everybody considers worth the effort. That’s Nick Foles. The former Super Bowl MVP had another solid late-season run for the Philadelphia Eagles last year, getting them to the playoffs and winning the wild card game in Chicago. Now he’s a free agent and expected to command a healthy pay raise. According to Les Bowen of the Philadelphia Enquirer, Jacksonville is fully prepared to snag him.

"“The only Eagles quarterback to ever win a Super Bowl is bound for Jacksonville when NFL free agency opens March 13, according to NFL sources with knowledge of the situation.A market for Nick Foles outside of Jacksonville has not developed, and though nothing is certain until it is official, the Jaguars absolutely expect to sign Foles, sources said.”"

Foles is a significant upgrade for Jaguars if they can protect him

There is no question that Foles is a superior quarterback to anything the Jaguars currently have. He’s proven that over the past two seasons. He deserves another chance to start and his playoff experience is something this team desperately craves. The big key for them is whether or not they can do what Philadelphia did to make him a success.

Protect him.

Jacksonville has had a rough history in recent years when it comes to keeping their quarterback on his feet. Last season was no exception. All told they allowed 53 sacks on the season. That isn’t going to cut it if they want this signing to go right. Getting the offensive line to play better while also finding more weapons on the outside must also key.
