Jason Witten has inspired DeMarcus Ware to potentially return
ESPN Monday Night Football color commentator Jason Witten is leaving the booth after one year to return to the Dallas Cowboys. He’s inspired DeMarcus Ware.
Jason Witten is leaving the ESPN Monday Night Football booth and returning to the football field with the Dallas Cowboys, coming out of retirement to sign a one-year contract.
The ironman Witten played all 16 games in 2017 (as he did most of the years of his NFL career) and caught 63 passes for 560 yards and five touchdowns.
The name of Witten’s game is not speed anymore, but he certainly would be a better option than what the Cowboys had this past season, and Dallas apparently agreed.
Along with Witten returning to the field, another familiar face and Cowboys legend DeMarcus Ware set Twitter ablaze by posing the question to fans of whether or not he should return to the field.
Ware said that Witten’s decision to return to the field inspired him, and that he’s been staying in shape.
If you follow Ware on Instagram at all, you know how good of shape this guy is truly in. He’s a beast and a rare breed at that.
Ware says in the video on his Twitter page that Von Miller’s been ‘hitting me up’ and that Demarcus Lawrence told him they (Cowboys) want ‘another guy on the edge’ when he comes back.
In 10 games (eight starts) with the Broncos in 2016, Ware recorded four sacks. He was dealing with some back issues before he ultimately decided to retire, but he was pursued heavily by the Los Angeles Rams in free agency despite his decision to retire.
Wade Phillips, the Rams’ defensive coordinator, won a Super Bowl with Ware in Denver after coaching him in Dallas.
If Ware returns to the field, any of those three teams would be really fun fits for him. There’s a high demand for edge players in the NFL right now and both the Cowboys and Rams are probably in need of a starter while the Broncos need a rotational guy to go with Von Miller and Bradley Chubb.
Ware hasn’t lost the burst or athleticism. He would also be a phenomenal pickup for any NFL locker room. If he decides to officially return to the football field, he would be a major asset.
