First round, 30th overall: T.J. Hockenson, TE, Iowa

The tight end position has been a position of mediocrity for so long in Green Bay. The last tight end to have a major impact in the passing game was Jermichael Finley. It’s time to change that and add a dynamic player at tight end.

While he doesn’t have the flashy plays of guys like Noah Fant and Irv Smith, T.J. Hockenson might be the best tight end in the 2019 class.

Hockenson is an excellent blocker who uses leverage very well at the point of attack. There are plenty of examples of him burying defenders on the edge. Not only is he an effective blocker, but he can stretch the field vertically in the passing game and can create separation as a receiver.

Yes, the Packers are reportedly bringing back Jimmy Graham this year, but Graham is on his last leg and isn’t the dominant force he once was. Bringing in a talent like Hockenson is both a good complement to Graham along with a player who can bring an impact to the middle of the field and the running game.
