07. Tony Gonzalez (Kansas City Chiefs and Atlanta Falcons)

Being the greatest ever at your position almost seems to have the requirement of a championship ring to come with it. Yet for Tony Gonzalez, that’s not the case. Not that it’s his fault. He was a beast at tight end for 17 seasons, catching a ridiculous 1,355 passes for over 15,400 yards and 115 touchdowns. All are NFL records for his position. He reached 14 Pro Bowls. The guy was a model of consistent excellence that most players only dream about.

So for him to not even play in a Super Bowl, let alone win one? That’s a travesty of justice by the football gods. In fact, Gonzalez didn’t even get to taste a playoff victory in his career until he was traded to Atlanta. Before that he’d been one-and-done three times in Kansas City. Finally in 2012, the Falcons made it to the NFC championship. Gonzalez was instrumental in helping them get there with 51 yards and a touchdown.

He was also great in the game itself with 78 yards and a touchdown. Sadly his hard luck returned to haunt him as Atlanta gave up a 17-0 lead to lose 28-24 to the 49ers.
