NFL Week 15: Winners and losers around the league
Josh Allen – Winner
Of all the rookie quarterbacks, none has faced more criticism than the Bills’ Josh Allen. Since declaring for the draft, Allen was heavily criticized for his accuracy, his NFL translatability, and coming from a small school. When the Bills selected Allen 7th overall in the draft, they also faced criticism for taking him so high.
While Allen’s season long stats don’t jump off the page, he’s helping the Bills compete with nothing around him. With Shady McCoy hurt and Zay Jones as his top target, the situation is not built for success. Despite all of this, Allen is 4-6 as a starter, with three of the loses all being within a touchdown. Allen is keeping this team in games with both his arm, and his mobility.
Sunday we saw one of Allen’s best games as a pro. He threw for 204 yards and a touchdown with no interceptions. Allen was also able to add 16 yards on the ground and a rushing touchdown en route to a victory over the Lions.
The Bills are out of playoff contention but with a few more weapons, they could have a very different record. Allen hasn’t been perfect, but he is showing he can compete, even with nothing around him. If the Bills add some weapons, we could see this Bills team back to playoff contention.
