Buffalo leads the league with 21 sacks allowed through the first four games of the season. After losing placeholder quarterback AJ McCarron to injury and later trade, the Bills are now reliant on their first round pick Josh Allen to lead them going forward.

After trading two second round picks to Tampa Bay to acquire Allen in the 2018 NFL Draft, the Bills have an opportunity to build something special. They can’t do that when their gunslinger quarterback is being slung around the turf.

Buffalo showed trust in second round pick Dion Dawkins when they traded long-time left tackle Cordy Glenn to Cincinnati. Pro Football Focus (subscription required) ranks Jordan Mills and Dawkins 41st and 44th among tackles, respectively, this year. The veteran Mills has started all 16 games in the last two seasons, but last year PFF pinned him with six sacks allowed.

Buffalo needs to build around Allen, and with no receivers worth taking they might as well protect their most valuable asset with arguably the best tackle in the class.
