New York has their franchise quarterback with Sam Darnold, and now it’s time to build a team.

Philadelphia and Chicago have gone with the model of finding the franchise quarterback then giving them everything they need on offense in year two. Philadelphia added Alshon Jeffery and Jay Ajayi while Chicago signed Allen Robinson and Trey Burton.

Right now there’s no wide receiver or running back worth taking in the top three, especially with the pass rushers projected to be available. D.K. Metcalf, AJ Brown, and J.J. Arcega-Whiteside each have the potential of being first round picks, but not top-three at this point.

Instead, the Jets must find a reliable pass rusher on their 3-4 defense to go with Leonard Williams. Nathan Shepherd hasn’t done much in his first NFL games coming out of Fort Hayes State, and Clelin Ferrell could prove to be a major upgrade.

The Clemson pass rusher had 8.5 sacks last year, but he also proved valuable against the run for the Tigers. He’s already taken down five quarterbacks this season and his stock is soaring higher than the Tigers in the poll.

Unless someone on offense who can grow with Darnold emerges, the Jets have to take the best player available, and right now that stands to be Ferrell.
