NFL Grades: Report card for each QB after four games

Matt Ryan (Atlanta Falcons): A-
He didn’t get off to the best start this season. For the second time in the past few months, Matt Ryan was stymied by the Philadelphia Eagles and their strong defense. He was solid in a win over Carolina after that with two touchdowns and one interception. Over the past two weeks though, it seems that somebody flipped the switch in Ryan’s head because he’s been brilliant.
Elite quarterbacks are supposed to be those guys who can carry their team to victories, even in shootout fashion if they have to. Ryan has done that to the best of his abilities with eight touchdown passes and no interceptions against the Saints and Bengals. It’s a sad reality that he couldn’t win either game despite posting 73 combined points.
It’s yet another reminder that Ryan is such a good quarterback. He’s just not quite at that elite category. He is a half step below it. That said his start to the season has been excellent. This despite serious reservations about his offensive coordinator. Proof again that the man finds a way to navigate the difficulties and keep having success.
