Josh Rosen is the Arizona Cardinals starting quarterback, as if it was a choice

After watching Sam Bradford lead an anemic offense for two and a half games, the Arizona Cardinals (0-3) have named rookie Josh Rosen their starting quarterback versus the Seattle Seahawks.

Arizona traded up from the 15th pick to 10th overall, losing a third and fifth-round pick to Oakland, to take the UCLA star, the fourth-quarterback off the board.

Rosen made his NFL debut against Chicago in week three in the fourth-quarter after Bradford and the offense only put up 14 points.

With the game still within reach, head coach Steve Wilks had a change of heart and decided Rosen was the best option to lead the team with four minutes left in the game, down by two.

Rosen finished his debut going 4-7 with 36 yards, 12 rushing yards, and an interception.

Arizona also had a financial incentive to bench Bradford, who they paid $15 million guaranteed. ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported Sunday morning that the Cardinals could save $4 million in game bonuses by benching the veteran Bradford.

Bradford also has an expensive option for next year that becomes fully guaranteed on the third day of the 2019 league year.

All five of the first round quarterbacks from the 2018 NFL Draft have made their debuts, with everyone but Lamar Jackson currently starting for their respective teams.

The next three quarterbacks to go off the board, Mason Rudolph, Kyle Lauletta and  Mike White, are on the 53-man rosters of the teams that drafted them. Other notable drafted quarterbacks such as Luke Falk, Logan Woodside, and Tanner Lee are on practice squads.
