Offense

RB Tony Brooks-James

The sustainability of the run game against Stanford’s run defense will be key in this game. Tony Brooks-James is the replacement for Royce Freeman (who left for the NFL draft last year), and is looking to continue his stride from week two against Portland State when he had 21 carries for 107 yards and two rushing touchdowns. He’d like to forget last week where he had 10 carries for 39 yards against San Jose State.

Oregon has five other backup running backs active for this game so he could get the bulk of the carries, but maybe not as much as 20 carries. Brooks-James should still be the tone setter and help set up the play action against a pretty good Stanford defense.

QB Justin Herbert

This one is kind of obvious. If Oregon wants to win against Stanford in an upset, this will be on Herbert’s shoulders to have success against Stanford’s defense. Even though they do not have the best weapons around him, they have a good enough run game and have a deep threat in Johnny Johnson and spread out the ball to a bunch of different pass catchers.

Jacob Schyvinck of NFL Mocks did a scouting report on Justin Herbert that is linked here as he is considered a top quarterback in this years draft class.

Herbert has thrown 12 touchdowns to four interceptions and has a 56.8% completion percentage, struggling with accuracy at times. He has 46 completions on 81 pass attempts with 840 passing yards this season. The junior quarterback has an efficient pass rate of 182.9 but only averages 10.4 yards per attempt in three games.

Herbert has to show out in this game and complete some shots downfield if they want to get their revenge on Stanford.
