Philadelphia Eagles clear Carson Wentz to start week three
Some big news has become official for the Philadelphia Eagles
Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz has been medically cleared by team doctors following ACL/LCL surgery last year. The third-year quarterback will make his season debut Sunday at home against the Indianapolis Colts.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported Sunday morning that Wentz could be cleared, and head coach Doug Pederson confirmed the news Monday.
Wentz was en route to an MVP season last year throwing 33 touchdowns and seven interceptions before injuring his knee against the Los Angeles Rams in week 13. Nick Foles stepped in an would take Philadelphia to their first Super Bowl victory, but the team has remained adamant Wentz would return as the starter once healthy.
Foles and the Eagles started this year 1-1 and 24th in the league with 644 offensive yards against Atlanta and Tamp Bay.

Now with Wentz healthy the Eagles focus turns to getting their top receiver back from injury. Alshon Jeffery played all of last season with a torn rotator cuff and he’s been held out the entire offseason.
Mike Wallace suffered a broken leg that could end his season, and Mack Hollins is already on injured reserve following offseason sports hernia surgery.
Without Jeffery, Wallace, or Hollins the Eagles are left with Nelson Agholor as their only reliable veteran wide receiver. Former Raven Kamar Aiken made the team out of camp, as did 2017 fifth-round pick Shelton Gibson, who has two career catches.
Tight ends Zach Ertz and Dallas Goedert are expected to pick up some of the targets with Wallace out.
Philadelphia will also welcome back former offensive coordinator Frank Reich on Sunday as he takes the field with the Indianapolis Colts as their head coach. Reich joined the Colts following Philadelphia’s Super Bowl run after Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels pulled out of the job at the last minute.
