The Worst Trade For Every NFL Team In History
By Erik Lambert
Houston Texans
The Houston Texans haven’t been around too long. So there weren’t many opportunities for them to make a gigantic mistake on the trade market. Still, nobody escapes it forever and even they’ve made a major blunder in the past 16 years. Their worst had to come during the 2005 season when they traded for cornerback Phillip Buchanon.
The team was desperate for more help on defense. Buchanon was a former 1st round pick who’d flashed playmaking ability in Oakland. He had six interceptions in 2003. So why were the Raiders willing to part with him? He was undersized at 5’10 and also battled injury problems. That didn’t stop the Texans from shipping 2nd and 3rd round picks out west for him.
Buchanon played a mere 14 games in two seasons for Houston with a paltry two interceptions to show for it. They ended up cutting him in the middle of the 2006 season. The final kick to the gut came when he signed with Tampa Bay and played injury free during the next two years during which he had five interceptions.
