A blockbuster move has shaken the Oakland Raiders and Chicago Bears

Oakland Raiders pass rusher Khalil Mack has reportedly been traded to the Chicago Bears.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter first broke the story Saturday morning, and NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport also confirmed the news.

Mack and Oakland have had limited conversations regarding a new contract, which has resulted in Mack holding out of the entire preseason. Rapoport says the Raiders gave Chicago permission to negotiate a new deal with Mack, which is expected to be the highest-paying contract for a defensive player in NFL history coming off Aaron Donald’s six-year, $135 million deal with Los Angeles.

Oakland was set to pay Mack $13.846 million in the fifth-year option of his rookie contract. Mack has been one of the best pass rushers in the NFL since being drafted fifth-overall in 2014.

Mack has 40.5 sacks in four seasons and has won Defensive Player of the Year in 2016 along with three Pro Bowls and two All-Pros.

Other reports suggested the asking price for Mack is two first round picks, something the Bears could be comfortable paying if they believe Mitch Trubisky is their franchise quarterback.

Chicago traded their 2019 second round pick to New England last year, so the Bears could be without their first two picks in the 2019 NFL Draft

Mack now joins a talent class of defenders on the Bears defense, which includes first round pick Roquan Smith at linebacker and second year lineman Jonathan Bullard.

Oakland drafted three defensive lineman in 2018 under returning head coach Jon Gruden: PJ Hall, Arden Key, and Maurice Hurst. It’ll be up to those rookies to replace Mack’s production, a tall task given his talent.
