The Seattle Seahawks have made an upgrade at the quarterback position

While Russell Wilson is undoubtedly the Seattle Seahawks starting quarterback, the team needed to make an upgrade behind him going into the 2018 season. After carrying Austin Davis and seventh-round pick Alex McGough, Seattle made a trade with the Green Bay Packers.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter and Rob Demovsky are reporting the Seahawks have acquired quarterback Brett Hundley from the Green Bay Packers.

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport says the Seahawks traded a sixth-round pick in the 2019 NFL Draft, which is considerably strong value for Green Bay to get back.

Drafted out of UCLA in the fifth-round of 2015, Hundley sat behind Aaron Rodgers and got seven starts last year when Rodgers broke his collarbone. Green Bay went 3-6 with Hundley as the starter after he threw nine touchdowns and 12 interceptions.

During the offseason, Green Bay acquired Browns quarterback Deshone Kizer for Damarious Randall. It would appear Kizer becomes the backup to Rodgers as the star quarterback goes into the second-to-last year of his deal.

Seattle has been very lucky, to say the least, with Wilson, who has started 96 consecutive games since week one of his rookie year. The team was reportedly interested in Colin Kaepernick, but couldn’t come to a deal.

The backup quarterback market now becomes a bit murkier with Teddy Bridgewater as the leading candidate to be moved. Sam Darnold looks ready to start week one for New York, leaving the Jets with Josh McCown and Bridgewater behind him.

Pittsburgh will likely move on from second-year quarterback Josh Dobbs, a fourth-round pick out of Tennessee who didn’t play last year. Veteran Landry Jones returns behind Ben Roethlisberger, and rookie Mason Rudolph was drafted too high to risk a practice squad spot.

Cardale Jones, Tom Savage, and Mike Glennon are three other names that could be on the move as teams trim down their 53-man roster for next week’s season opener.
