Baltimore Ravens top pick Hayden Hurst out 3-4 weeks
It’s a tough break for the Baltimore Ravens tight end, on his Birthday no less
Baltimore Ravens first round pick Hayden Hurst suffered a stress fracture in his foot according to NFL Network’s Mike Garafollo. The injury will reportedly have the tight end sidelined for three-four weeks, meaning he’ll miss the season opener against Buffalo and potentially more.
In their first three preseason games, Hurst had eight catches for 41 yards and a touchdown.
Hurst started his career as a baseball player, drafted in the 17th round by the Pittsburgh Pirates in 2012. After two seasons in the Pirates minor league organization, Hurst walked onto South Carolina and became a First-Team All-SEC tight end.
In three seasons at South Carolina Hurst caught 100 passes for 1,281 yards and just three touchdowns.

The Ravens traded back from 22 to 25 in the 2018 NFL Draft and took Hurst out of South Carolina with their first of two first round picks. Quarterback Lamar Jackson followed Hurst as the organization’s second first round pick after a trade with Philadelphia for pick number 32.
Baltimore also drafted Oklahoma tight end Mark Andrews in 2018, using the 86th overall pick to give them a pair of young tight ends for Jackson and Joe Flacco.
Hursts injury likely gives Andrews more playing time behind Nick Boyle, and potentially some first-team reps in practice and the final preseason games.
Baltimore returns Boyle and 2015 second round pick Maxx Williams, who hasn’t produced since coming out of Minnesota. Williams missed most of 2016 and had only 15 catches last year for Baltimore, making him a candidate to be cut after the preseason in two weeks.
