Washington Redskins sign RB Adrian Peterson
One of the all-time great running backs is going to the Washington Redskins
Veteran running back Adrian Peterson has reportedly agreed to a deal with the Washington Redskins, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.
Peterson’s signing comes a week after Washington lost second-round pick Derrius Guice to a torn ACL. The Redskins reportedly worked out a slew of veteran running backs, including Orleans Darkwa and Jamaal Charles.
This season hopes to be a more productive one for the future Hall of Famer Peterson after he left the Vikings for New Orleans last offseason. With Minnesota drafting Dalvin Cook, it was apparent the Vikings had no room for the 10-year veteran Peterson, despite his 12,000-yard career with them.
With the emergence of rookie Alvin Kamara paired with veteran Mark Ingram, the Saints only gave the seven-time Pro Bowler 27 carries in four games.

New Orleans would deal Peterson to the Arizona Cardinals in October for a conditional sixth-round pick following David Johnson’s injury. The 33-year-old started six games averaging 74.7 yards per game, a career low with at least six games played.
Peterson suffered a neck injury midway through the season and was placed on injured reserve before Arizona released him in the offseason.
Washington’s running back room now has Peterson leading Chris Thompson, Rob Kelley, and Samaje Perine. The second-year back Perine was expected to get a bulk of Washington’s carries coming off a 600-yard rookie season and with Guice out for the season.
Peterson is just three yards short of passing Marshall Falk on the all-time rushing list, and needs only 37 yards to pass Jim Brown for 10th all-time.
It’s a solid veteran addition for Washington, but we’ll see how much Peterson still has left in the tank or if he can stay healthy.
