Seattle Seahawks offered Indianapolis a 2nd round pick for Jacoby Brissett
What were the Seattle Seahawks thinking by offering a high pick here?
Sometimes the biggest trades are the ones not made, and the Seattle Seahawks were reportedly very interested in making a deal with the Indianapolis Colts for a quarterback.
Ben Volin of The Boston Globe reported Saturday that a league source confirmed to him that Seattle offered the Colts a second-round pick for quarterback Jacoby Brissett, who started 15 games in place of Andrew Luck.
As Volin notes, former Colts quarterback coach Brian Schottenheimer is now the offensive coordinator in Seattle. If Schottenheimer loved working with Brissett the idea of trading for him makes sense, but at the price of a second round pick?
That sounds pricey for a quarterback who has started 17 games and is 5-12 with New England and Indianapolis and with Russell Wilson solidified as a Super Bowl-winning quarterback.
Colts owner Jim Irsay said the team wouldn’t trade Brissett for a first round pick as the team hopes Luck fully recovers from multiple shoulder procedures that cost him a season and a half.
The Patriots originally took Brissett out of NC State with the 91st overall pick in 2016, and as a rookie, Brissett appeared in three games and started two while Tom Brady was suspended for Deflategate and Jimmy Garoppolo was injured.
Brissett was traded to Indianapolis last season for wide receiver Phillip Dorsett, a first round pick in 2015, who had just 12 catches for the Patriots last year. With Luck out for the season and Scott Tolzien looking horrendous, Brissett started for the Colts.

Seattle could use a better backup quarterback behind Wilson, currently having Austin Davis and rookie seventh round pick Alex McGough out of Florida International.
Seattle had been a hotly rumored destination for Colin Kaepernick, and the team previously cut Trevone Boykin after off the field issues.
Perhaps Paxton Lynch or Teddy Bridgewater become of interest to the Seahawks if they’re desperate to make an upgrade at backup quarterback or develop another young arm behind Wilson.
Regardless this reported offer sounds too good to be true for Seattle to make given their current situation as a team on the decline around Wilson, who makes nearly $24 million this year and has another year left on his deal.
