New England Patriots lose first round pick Isaiah Wynn for the season
Another big blow hits the New England Patriots offense this offseason
New England Patriots first round pick Isaiah Wynn is out for the season after reportedly rupturing his achillies tendon during Thursday night’s preseason game against Philadelphia.
Both ESPN’s Adam Schefter and NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport tweeted Friday morning that while the injury has been reported as one to his ankle, the former Georgia lineman will miss the entire season.
New England drafted Wynn 23rd overall out of Georgia, using the pick received in the Brandin Cooks deal with the Los Angeles Rams. The Patriots also drafted Wynn’s collegiate teammate, running back Sony Michel, in the first round this year with the 31st overall pick. Michel underwent a minor knee procedure two weeks ago, but is expected to be ready for week one against Houston.

Wynn played across the Bulldogs offensive line and was competing for the Patriots left tackle job following Nate Solder’s departure this offseason. Veteran Trent Brown now has the inside track to protect Tom Brady’s blindside in the quarterback’s 19th season.
Veteran LaAdrian Waddle is another option at left tackle and should see plenty of preseason action.
New England has dealt with injuries early this season, losing wide receiver Jordan Matthews to a torn hamstring in training camp. Running back Rex Burkhead is dealing with a knee injury of his own, calling it a “small tear” he expects to play through.
Veteran wide receiver Kenny Britt is also dealing with a hamstring injury and has been on the PUP list since late July.
New England has the Panthers and Giants remaining on their preseason schedule before hosting the Texans on September 9.
