NFL Preseason highlights: The best rookie performances on Thursday
Shaquem Griffin, LB
Seattle Seahawks rookie linebacker Shaquem Griffin is one of the most intriguing players in the NFL.
Regardless of what happened in the Seahawks’ preseason opener, his impact on the game would have been notable just for the fact that everyone wants to know what he’s doing every week.
So, the fact that he led the Seahawks in tackles is pretty significant.
Griffin finished with nine tackles (six solo) and one pretty impressive tackle for loss playing a traditional off-ball linebacker position.
I’m not convinced that will be the best position for Griffin, whose presence off the edge is what made him such a valuable threat at UCF.
The Seahawks should find ways to get him in that Bruce Irvin role, though Griffin certainly has the ability as a former safety to be able to cover.
This was an impressive debut statistically, but the video makes it look pretty standard as far as what Griffin is capable of. I’d love to see him used more off the edge and blitzing.
